SKeLeCRon

This article has tourettes.  You have been warned.

One month since my post on having completed no models in a year and I have now "completed" two.  Completed gets little quotey marks because they're not based.   They also don't have photos other that the half-assed ones I took at my painting table which you can see to the side.  Actually half-assed is probably the moral of these two guys.  Though it was intentional.  Lemme esplain.

The last year or so pretty much made me lose the fun of the hobby.   I got locked in a cycle that I could do hobby work or hobby hobby.  If I was doing hobby hobby that meant I wasn't doing hobby work and thus guilt would ensue.  If I was doing hobby work then it had to be "World Class Excellent #1 Accept No Substitutes blah, blah, blah" which is stressful.

Grey Knights Kick Puppies

New Grey Knights are here!  I've had a Grey Knight army for sometime now and have occasionally pulled its rumpled 3rd Edition Codex out for a game.   Despite the intertrons bitching I found them to be a fairly viable force, if lacking the depth of modern codexes.  Of course I cheated like a bitch because I only used the most current rules for all their gear.  I've even played them in tournaments that way, without asking, and nobody batted an eye.  Fuck GW and their erratas, Assault Cannons are not Heavy 3 without rending.  I guess, for me, getting a Landraider that "works" isn't really such a big deal.  Mine have always worked, largely because the people I play with aren't assholes.   I love them forever for that.

Nonetheless, I was excited to see what new, exciting, and crazy things the Knights could do so Casey and I duked it out.  I would be trying the new Grey Knights.  He would be trying the, new to him, Space Wolves.  I confess, having seen the Wolves in action I figured my ass was grass.  As it turns out the Grey Knight codex isn't really all that "new" and Casey wasn't kidding when he said his army was out of his normal comfort zone.

Ork Man Love

Maximillian
The month of August through the beginning of September are a total fucking blur for me.   Out of five weeks I spent three of them traveling to game conventions -- Gen-Con, OFCC, and PAX.   While they were an absolute blast they were also absolutely exhausting.   The dim twilight periods between each event were just enough to clean up from the last one and prepare for the next one.  No time to actually recover was allotted.  Now that all the travel is done I'm slowly but surely unburying myself from a pile of work and trying to tame the crazed beast that is my poor house.   All the while the unrelenting beat of time and Soda Pop deadlines continues to loom.   Suffice to say this kid needed a break to remember why he likes tiny soldiers.   Which meant taking a moment to paint something entirely selfish.  Naturally that meant a GW Orc or Ork (depending on Fantasy or 40k) in Momma's Boyz colors.

Da Momma's Boyz may be a bit neglected at the moment but they are an integral part of my gamer DNA.   They were the third army I ever painted to completion.  My first for a GW system.  More importantly they were my army of choice during my heady college days, the origin of my game club, and part of the foundation of me meeting many of my dearest, lifelong, friends.  Plus Orks hit things and are really loud.  I admire that.
